Getting to and from Santorini Port

Getting to and from Santorini Port

By Taxi

The taxi rank at Athinios Port is notoriously chaotic, with very long queues forming the moment a ferry arrives due to the island's limited number of taxis.

A pre-booked transfer with Aegean Taxi is the most popular choice to avoid the stress and guarantee a vehicle is waiting.

Your driver will meet you and navigate the steep, winding road up the caldera cliffs, providing a safe and comfortable journey to your hotel.

By Bus

The public KTEL bus is the most economical option, waiting at the port to take passengers from arriving ferries directly to the main bus station in Fira.

Please note that this is the central hub; to reach other destinations like Oia or Kamari, you will need to purchase a new ticket and transfer to a different bus line.

You can find schedules on the official website: ktel-santorini.gr

By Car

Renting a car provides the most freedom to explore Santorini's villages and beaches. Several rental agencies have offices at Athinios Port, allowing you to pick up your vehicle upon arrival.

Be aware that the initial drive up the steep, winding caldera road can be challenging, and parking in Fira and Oia is extremely limited.

Booking your car well in advance is essential to ensure availability.

By Shared Transfer

Shared shuttle services are a popular option at Athinios Port, offering a balance between cost and convenience. These minibuses group passengers together who are heading to the same area, such as Fira or Oia.

This is a great compromise, as it's more direct than the public bus but more affordable than a private taxi. You can often book these services in advance or upon arrival at the port.

Frequently asked questions about Santorini Port

How do I get from Santorini Port to my hotel?

The main options from Athinios Port are the public bus or a pre-booked transfer. The bus is a budget-friendly choice that goes to the central station in Fira, where you must change for other destinations. For a direct, door-to-door service, a pre-booked transfer with Aegean Taxi is the most hassle-free option.

Is it easy to get a taxi at Santorini Port?

No, it is extremely difficult. Santorini has a very small fleet of taxis, and Athinios Port becomes incredibly congested when ferries arrive. Expect very long queues and significant waiting times, especially in summer. This is the island's biggest transport challenge.

How much is a taxi from the port to Oia?

A taxi from Athinios Port to the village of Oia can cost between €45 and €55, with the price varying based on traffic. For a guaranteed fixed fare with no surprises, a pre-booked transfer with Aegean Taxi is the best way to manage your budget.

Should I pre-book my Santorini port transfer?

Yes, pre-booking is essential for a stress-free arrival at Santorini's port. It is the only way to guarantee a vehicle is waiting for you, allowing you to bypass the chaotic taxi queues. A service like Aegean Taxi will also track your ferry's arrival for delays.
